Fox sideline reporter Jenny Taft was caught off guard during Friday’s World Cup clash between USA and Australia in Seattle, after being unexpectedly soaked by the pitch sprinklers during a break in play at Lumen Field.
Taft, 38, who works as a sideline reporter for Fox in its capacity as US broadcast rights holder for the tournament, took the unfortunate moment in good humour, sharing her sprinkler soaking with viewers during USA’s 2-0 victory over Australia in their Group D fixture.
Taft had a busy night on broadcast duties beyond her unplanned shower. She conducted an exclusive interview with USA manager Mauricio Pochettino before kick-off and broke the news to viewers that star forward Christian Pulisic would be unavailable for the match through injury.
Despite Pulisic’s absence, USA had little trouble securing the win, with the breakthrough coming via a Cameron Burgess own goal before Alex Freeman added a second with a header. The victory secured USA’s progression to the knockout stages of the tournament, following co-hosts Mexico in booking their place in the next round.
