A doorbell camera clip showing a Royal Mail worker appearing to spit or blow towards a St George’s Cross has triggered a wave of online reaction, although the footage does not clearly establish what happened.
A doorbell camera recording from around September 21–22, 2026, appears to show a Royal Mail delivery worker approaching a property where an England flag is displayed on a gate before leaning towards it. The worker, who is carrying parcels and wearing clothing bearing the Royal Mail logo, then walks towards the front door and rings the bell. The footage has since spread rapidly across social media, with viewers divided over whether he spat at the flag or was simply clearing away dust, cobwebs or other debris.
The video has attracted significant attention after being shared on X, Facebook and other online platforms, with some users accusing the unidentified worker of deliberately showing disrespect towards the St George’s Cross.
Among those to share the footage was Tommy Robinson, who posted the clip on X on September 22 and asked Royal Mail whether there had been any response to the incident.
His post was accompanied by the caption:
“Royal Mail worker caught on ring doorbell spitting on the England flag on the owners’ gate. Any word @RoyalMail?”
The post had attracted more than 22,000 likes, around 4,500 reposts and approximately 674,000 views according to the figures provided at the time of publication.
Britain First leader Paul Golding also shared the footage, writing:
“Royal Mail staff member spits on an English flag before dropping off an item!”
His post had received more than 1,000 likes and several hundred reposts.
What does the footage show?
The recording begins with the Royal Mail worker approaching the residential property while carrying parcels. A St George’s Cross can be seen hanging from the gate.
At an early point in the footage, the worker leans towards the flag before continuing towards the property entrance. He subsequently rings the doorbell, with his expression appearing to some viewers as a smile or laugh.
However, the available footage does not clearly show saliva leaving the worker’s mouth or establish conclusively that he deliberately spat on the flag.
Some viewers have therefore suggested an alternative explanation, arguing that the worker may have been blowing away cobwebs, dust or another piece of debris around the gate.
The worker has not been publicly identified.
Royal Mail response remains unclear
As of the evening of September 22, Royal Mail had not publicly commented on the video or confirmed whether the company was investigating the incident.
There has also been no publicly confirmed disciplinary action against the worker.
The lack of an official explanation means that the precise circumstances behind the brief interaction remain unclear.
Much of the reaction online has nevertheless focused on the significance of the St George’s Cross, with commenters debating whether the footage represents deliberate disrespect towards England’s national flag or an innocuous action that has been misinterpreted.
The incident has also prompted discussion about the behaviour expected of delivery workers while representing their employers during visits to customers’ homes.
For now, the video itself does not establish the worker’s intention, and no official finding has been announced.
