At least 27 people have died after a devastating fire tore through a popular bar and restaurant in Bangkok, with authorities launching an investigation into the tragedy as survivors were rushed to hospital and forensic teams began examining the scene.
Emergency services were called to Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a well-known entertainment venue in the Thai capital, shortly before midnight local time after reports of a major fire. Firefighters arrived to find the building engulfed in flames, while thick smoke rapidly filled the premises. Rescue crews later discovered that many people had become trapped inside, including in the venue’s toilets, as the blaze spread.
Rescue operation unfolds
Firefighters initially found one person suffering from burn injuries before realising numerous people remained inside the building.
Video from the scene showed casualties lying on the road outside as emergency responders performed CPR in an effort to save lives.
After bringing the fire under control, rescue teams searched every part of the venue to ensure nobody else was trapped inside.
Several survivors were taken to nearby hospitals with burns and smoke inhalation, while others received treatment from medical teams at the scene before being transported for further care.

Investigation underway
Thai authorities have launched an investigation into what caused the fire, with forensic specialists examining the building for evidence.
Police are also expected to interview the venue’s owners and staff as part of enquiries into whether the premises complied with fire safety regulations and emergency exit requirements.
Officials said the blaze spread quickly through the entertainment venue, producing dense smoke that made escaping extremely difficult for those inside.
Following the disaster, Bangkok authorities urged bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues to review their fire safety procedures, including evacuation plans and emergency exits.
The fire is among Thailand’s deadliest entertainment venue disasters in recent years, with officials continuing to identify the victims and notify their families while investigators gather evidence from the scene.
