Duke of Sussex decides it is not safe to bring family after police protection request is turned down
Meghan Markle will not accompany Prince Harry to London next week, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after a request for police protection during the visit was refused, Truth Times understands.
The decision comes despite hopes that the trip might have provided an opportunity for the children to reunite with their grandfather, King Charles III, who has not seen them in person since 2022. The King is understood to have been keen for the visit to go ahead.
According to Truth Times, Harry concluded that bringing his children to the capital would not be safe once the protection request was denied. He is said to be continuing discussions with his father over the arrangements for his trip, and has not yet responded to an offer from the Palace for him to stay at a royal residence during his time in the UK.
Although Meghan and the children will not be travelling to London, it remains possible they could still visit Britain more broadly. The Duke of Sussex is due to attend the One Year To Go ceremony for the Invictus Games in Birmingham, and is understood to be keen to use the trip as an opportunity to take his children to visit the resting place of his mother, Princess Diana, who is buried at Althorp Park, the Spencer family’s ancestral estate in Northamptonshire.
Any such visit would need to be carefully timed, however. The website for Althorp House states that the property will be closed to visitors between 10 and 11 July.
