CCTV footage of Kaushambi blaze goes viral days after driver and toll workers killed.Four people have died after a liquefied petroleum gas tanker crashed and burst into flames near a toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, according to Indian media reports.
The accident happened on the morning of 26 June, when the tanker, travelling from Kanpur towards Varanasi, is reported to have lost control and struck a road divider. The impact caused a gas leak, which quickly ignited into a large fire that engulfed the surrounding toll plaza area, reports said.
The tanker driver, named as Dharmendra Dwivedi and reported to be from Mirzapur, was trapped inside the vehicle’s cabin and died at the scene.
Several employees working at the toll plaza suffered severe burn injuries in the blaze and were taken to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment. One employee died the following day, and two further victims later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to four, according to reports. Two other people are reported to remain injured.
The fire also caused significant damage to the toll plaza itself, with reports indicating that 16 motorcycles and two cars were destroyed. Traffic through the area was disrupted for several hours as emergency services dealt with the aftermath.
CCTV footage capturing the moments before the crash has since circulated widely online, prompting renewed coverage of the incident more than a week after it occurred.
According to reports, investigations into the crash are focusing on possible driver error, road conditions at the time, and the safety protocols in place at the toll plaza.
