Eighty-two-year-old Nina Lipscomb had been missing for days. Her family was worried sick, and authorities, despite their best efforts, have not been able to locate her. The grandma had early-stage Alzheimer’s, so there’s a good chance that she might get disoriented and get lost somewhere.
Thankfully, a Georgia toddler by the name of Ethan Moore was playing with bubbles with his mommy in their backyard last Friday. While chasing bubbles, the keen-eyed toddler noticed something near the fence of his home.
Brittany Moore, Ethan’s mom, shared the story with CBS 46. “I went over there and was like, ‘What do you see buddy?’ and he pointed and said, ‘Feet,’” Brittany said.
Confused, the mom asked her son to repeat what he said. “‘Okay, buddy can you say that again. What did you say?’ And he said, ‘Feet,’” Brittany added.
The mom crouched down to see what Ethan was seeing, and sure enough, she also saw a pair of feet. Brittany briefly felt a fight or flight response (and who wouldn’t, considering she just saw a random pair of feet near her property), but she quickly alerted the authorities.
“If you get on his level and look through, you can see some of the broken sticks and that’s where she was laying. I didn’t know if I needed to go into fight or flight because I had my little boy out here and the other inside,” Brittany said.
First responders who answered the mom’s call realized that the person spotted by Ethan was Nina Lipscomb. She was alive, but she was disoriented.
Speaking to CBS 46, Karen Lipscomb, Nina’s daughter, stated that they tried really hard to look for her mother. She noted that the family was extremely thankful that Ethan was observant and vocal enough to tell his mom that he saw something. Otherwise, the elderly woman might have perished in the woods.
“We pulled out every resource we thought we needed, but it was a little boy, and she’s very fond of children,” Karen said.
Ethan and the old lady he saved met after she was released from the hospital. Nina thanked her little hero with a bag of even more bubble toys.
That seems like an appropriate reward for this story’s hero.
