Bye! Green Day Star Billie Joe Armstrong Says ‘F*ck America,’ Reveals He Is Renouncing US Citizenship

StyleBye! Green Day Star Billie Joe Armstrong Says 'F*ck America,' Reveals He Is Renouncing US Citizenship

Punk rock band Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has announced that he is “renouncing his citizenship” from the United States of America. He announced his decision during a recent performance in London.

Armstrong’s announcement came on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which guaranteed a constitutional right to abortion. While addressing the concert’s audience, the 50-year-old Armstrong noted that he was moving to the U.K

“F**k America. I’m f***ing renouncing my citizenship. I’m f**king coming here. There’s just too much f***ing stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f***ing excuse for a country,” Armstrong said.

“Oh, I’m not kidding. You’re going to get a lot of me in the coming days,” he added.

The crowd at the performance seemed to appreciate Armstrong’s sentiments, responding with roaring applause when the Green Day frontman announced that he was moving to the U.K.

As noted by the Daily Mail, Armstrong also told the crowd “F**k the Supreme Court of America” before playing “American Idiot,” one of the band’s most popular tracks.

Interestingly enough, Green Day has stated that “American Idiot” was written out of anger about not being represented by national leadership. Armstrong certainly made that clear in his recent concert, reportedly dubbing SCOTUS judges “pr**cks” during his performance of another popular song, “Hitchin’ a Ride.”

The reception of the online community to Armstrong’s announcement was mixed. While many expressed their support of the frontman, many also noted that the U.K. is not any less politically charged than the U.S. right now, with politicians like Prime Minister Boris Jonson also courting controversy left and right.
